CVG – The Magazine Days – Send in your memories and questions!

Hello chums, Chris here.

We’re prepping to record the next episode of Chatting Vintage Games in the next week or two. As promised in the last episode, this one will be about our days working in video game magazines.

We’ll be joined again by Mike Jackson, who was our guest for the GameCube episode.

Usually we just ask you to share our memories, but this time because we know a lot of people always have questions about working on magazines we’re also taking any of your questions about the process. We’re also opening this up to Patrons on the free tier, though the podcast itself will remain locked to the paid tiers.

For those not familiar with our backgrounds, in case it helps with your questions: Mike worked with Nintendo: The Official Magazine for EMAP, then moved to Future Publishing and worked on the Official Xbox Magazine, before working on CVG then moving to the US.

I started at the Official Nintendo Magazine when Future took it over (in 2006), where I worked for six years. This was followed by a brief stint on the Nintendo Gamer website, followed by the last couple of years of CVG before it was closed down.

Andy started off as a staff writer on Kikizo before moving to Future where he worked his way up the ranks at CVG, eventually becoming its (final) editor.

Combined, the three of us have also freelanced for a bunch of other publications. Andy and Mike both wrote articles for ONM while I was there, and I’ve written for the likes of Official Xbox Magazine, Official PlayStation Magazine, PSW, GamesMaster and GamesTM.

If you’re new to our Patreon or haven’t subscribed to our paid tiers yet, Chatting Vintage Games is our retro podcast. We do one a month, on a different topic each time. Members of all paid tiers – Supporter, Insider and Season Ticket Holder – all get access to CVG.

Get sending in your questions and memories of the magazine days!

With love

Chris
