Yakuza spin-off Like a Dragon Gaiden’s release date may have been revealed early
The new game will tell Kiryu’s story between Yakuza 6 and 7
New information and a possible release date for Sega‘s upcoming Yakuza spin-off may have been revealed early.
Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name back in September 2022 during a ‘Studio Summit’ presentation.
New information on the game has seemingly now briefly appeared on the PlayStation Store’s backend, at least according to PlayStation Store tracking site PS Deals, which pulls such information for its own listings.
Ryu Ga Gotoku is holding another Studio Summit on June 15, so it’s possible that the information briefly went up a week earlier by accident.
According to the info pulled from PS Deals, the game’s release date is marked as November 9.
A new product description also gives new information on the game’s plot. It reads: “Once a legendary yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu faked his own death and abandoned his name for the sake of protecting his family.
“Now, he is thrust into conflict by a mysterious figure attempting to drive him out of hiding. Under the codename ‘Joryu’, Kiryu embarks on a gripping action narrative with bone-shattering combat in vibrant locations filled with exciting characters and activities.”
The game will reportedly have two fighting styles, Yakuza and Agent, with the player able to switch between them dynamically.
“With the Yakuza style, strike fear into enemies by unleashing wildly aggressive moves powered by Kiryu’s unparalleled strength and flair,” the description reads.
“Or up the ante with the Agent style by delivering blows with absolute speed and precision, while using an array of high-tech gadgets like electrified bind wires to stun enemies then send them flying.”
The description also lists other features, including the return of karaoke, a live-action cabaret club, a pocket racing circuit and a “secret Castle arena”.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name isn’t the next main entry in the series, and instead serves as a side-story explaining what happened to series protagonist Kiryu between Yakuza 6 and Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
“This is going to be an action-adventure game”, executive producer Masayoshi Yokoyama said when the game was originally announced last year. “It will be about half the size of a regular Yakuza game.”
