XDefiant studio claims ‘the game is absolutely not dying’
“Ubisoft is very much behind us and has allocated more resources to the team”
Ubisoft San Francisco has denied suggestions that XDefiant’s days could be numbered.
The studio addressed the status of the free-to-play shooter on Tuesday, following reports that there’s been a sharp drop in interest in the game, contributing to a significant decline in Ubisoft’s share price,
“No, the game is absolutely not dying,” it said as part of a roadmap update for the title. “We know there are things we need to improve like Netcode/Hitreg and adding more content to progression, but the game is doing well.
“We just want it to do better. And we do that by addressing the concerns of our community which has always been the plan.
“Ubisoft is very much behind us and has allocated more resources to the team in order for us to do that,” the post continued.
XDefiant was released in May for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. VGC’s XDefiant review called it “a confident shooter that’s far more than a Call of Duty knockoff”.
The game’s first season of live content launched in July. It introduced three new maps and Capture the Flag mode.
Ubisoft is planning to reveal XDefiant Season 2 later on Wednesday.
Executive producer Mark Rubin also said this week that Free-for-All mode is coming to the game, although he couldn’t confirm when.
Ubisoft recently laid off 45 employees across its San Francisco studio and Cary, North Carolina-based Red Storm Entertainment.
