Xbox’s Edge browser can now run Google Stadia

Microsoft has released Xbox’s September system update, which introduces a new Edge web browser and fresh ways to access games on PCs.

The latest version of Edge is now available on all Xbox consoles, offering “improved web standards and a fast, secure, and modern browsing experience right from your console”, according to Microsoft.

As previously reported when it was tested by Xbox Insiders earlier this year, the Chromium version of Edge can run Google’s Stadia streaming service, allowing Xbox console players to access its library of cloud games.

The latest version of Edge, which supports mouse and keyboard, can also be used to access Steam PC games, and improves compatibility with services like Skype and Discord through the web, as well as browser-based games, The Verge reports.

September’s Xbox update also introduces two new ways for PC users to play Xbox games remotely.

Following the latest updates to the Xbox app, Windows 10 PC users can stream Xbox Game Pass titles from the cloud and stream games from their home consoles.

Xbox Cloud Gaming on Windows PCs through the Xbox app was first made available in August for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers signed up to the Xbox Insider programme before opening up to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 22 countries this month.

Microsoft has also enabled remote play in the Xbox app, enabling users to stream Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles to PCs.
