Xbox held ‘a spectacular holographic display’ in London for the Series X/S launch
UPDATE: See Xbox’s “holographic chamber”
Xbox will hold a number of livestreams on Monday to celebrate the launch of Xbox Series X and S, culminating with a “spectacular holographic display” in London.
First up, the platform holder’s US arm will hold an Xbox Launch Celebration on Twitch from 11am PST / 6pm GMT. The stream will last for 6 hours and feature Let’s Play segments, interviews, and more, according to Microsoft.
In the UK, an Xbox On stream will also start at 6pm GMT, featuring Xbox Series X gameplay from various launch titles and prizes to be won via live interactive challenges.
UPDATE: Xbox On viewers were shown a rooftop display set against the backdrop of St Paul’s Cathedral in London, using a purpose-built 4K holographic installation.
Standing 12 ft high, the ‘Dreams Within installation’ used four 4K projectors to create a holographic chamber, with multiple cameras employed to give the effect of shimmering transparency while a light show played within and around it.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: The livestream will count down to the launch of the next generation of Xbox consoles at midnight, culminating in a “spectacular holographic display set against London’s iconic skyline,” according to Microsoft.
Microsoft is planning a similar showpiece in New Zealand’s Queenstown, where it’s planning to host “a dream-like ‘Greenstown’ reveal” that will begin from dusk, framed by The Remarkables mountain range.
The New Zealand event will be streamed live from 10am GMT.
“New Zealand and Australia will be the first in the world to bring our next-generation consoles to our fans. So, we want to celebrate this momentous event in style,” said Dan Johnson, Xbox Lead for ANZ.
“I’d like to invite our Aussie and Kiwi fans to join us on an engaging livestream as we transform the adventure capital of the world into ‘Greenstown’ and broadcast it right into the comfort of their homes.”
Launching worldwide on November 10, Xbox Series X is priced at $499/€499/£449 and Xbox Series S costs $300/$300/£249.
In VGC’s Xbox Series X review, our critic called the console “an excellent console with some meaningful next-gen features, waiting for the software that will truly take it to the next level.”
