Xbox to add PS4 controller support with xCloud

Xbox has expanded the public preview of its Project xCloud game streaming service with 50 new games and confirmed that Dualshock 4 support is coming.

New titles such as Devil May Cry 5, Tekken 7, Forza Horizon 4, Overcooked and Hitman are now available in the public preview library, the platform holder announced on Thursday.

The platform holder opened registration for the UK, US and Korea preview in late September, before launching in October with four games; Gears 5, Halo 5, Sea of Thieves and Killer Instinct.

Xbox said it would send out additional invites to the preview version on Thursday.

At X019, the platform holder detailed it’s future plans for Project xCloud, confirming the service will expand to new regions such as Canada, Japan and Western Europe in 2020.

Currently the streaming service requires an Android phone or tablet, but Xbox said it will bring xCloud to Windows 10 PCs and “other devices” next year.

It will also expand the number of compatible Bluetooth controllers to include PS4’s Dualshock 4 and game pads from Razer.

In 2020 xCloud players will be able to stream from the cloud Xbox games that they already own or will purchase and Xbox will also add game streaming from the cloud to Xbox Game Pass.

Kareem Choudhry, corporate VP of cloud gaming at Microsoft, said recently: “Public preview is a critical phase in our multi-year ambition to deliver game streaming globally at the scale and quality of experience that the gaming community deserves and expects.

“It’s time to put Project xCloud to the test in a broader capacity, with a range of gamers, devices, network environments and real-world use-case scenarios, and this is where you come in.”

A Microsoft patent application uncovered in July suggests the company may be developing Xbox controllers designed to support mobile gaming.
