Xbox says Forza Horizon 6 is still coming to PS5 this year, as it prepares the game’s next major update

Xbox has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will still be coming to PlayStation 5 later this year.

When the game was originally announced last year, Xbox confirmed that it would be coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC at launch, with a PS5 release coming “post-launch”.

Since then, however, Xbox has undergone major changes in both management and strategy, ditching its apparent plan to make all future releases multi-platform and instead deciding exclusivity on a game-by-game basis.

This led some to worry that the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 6 to be either scrapped or delayed, even though Xbox committed at the time to all previously announced multiplatform releases proceeding as planned.

Now, as developer Playground Games prepares its next major update for the game, it has been reiterated that it will still be coming to PlayStation 5 consoles before the year’s end.

“If you’re planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned,” a statement on the game’s official website reads. “Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your Wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability.”

The game’s next major update, which has a British Automotive theme, launches on Thursday, September 10 and will add a new permanent race type, Drift Attack, which are similar to Drift Zones but feature specific points on the track to drift along for extra points.

The release of Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 will be an important one for Microsoft, given that Forza Horizon 5 – which came to PS5 more than four years after its original Xbox launch – reportedly sold more than 5 million copies on Sony‘s console alone.

VGC’s Forza Horizon 6 review called it “an essential racing game”, and said developer Playground Games had outdone itself.

“Forza Horizon 5 was already an exceptional racing game, but Forza Horizon 6 takes everything up a notch to deliver an even more engaging, entertaining and all-encompassing experience,” we said.

“There’s an absolute wealth of racing, exploring and collecting to do here, and that’s before the inevitable live-service updates start adding even more content. Few games are as essential as this.”
