Watch Dogs Legion and Far Cry 6 will support Xbox Smart Delivery

Update: Free PS4 to PS5 upgrades also confirmed, but players unable to convert physical copies to a digital version for discless consoles like PS5 Digital Edition

Watch Dogs Legion and Far Cry 6 will support Xbox Smart Delivery

Ubisoft has announced that both Watch Dogs Legion and Far Cry 6 will support Xbox Smart Delivery.

Smart Delivery lets players buy a game once and play it across Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Confirming a previous leak, Ubisoft also said on Sunday that Far Cry 6 PS4 owners will get free access to a digital PS5 version of the game. Retail listings confirm this will be the case for Watch Dogs Legion too.

Ubisoft previously confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will support Xbox Smart Delivery. On Sunday, it said that PS4 owners will be also able to upgrade to the PS5 version at no additional cost.

UPDATE 13/07/20: However, as with Electronic Arts’ next-gen upgrade scheme, there are currently no plans to support players who want to convert their physical PS4 games to digital versions for a discless console like PS5 Digital Edition.

In an update on its website, Ubisoft explained how the next-gen upgrade process will work for its supported titles.

“For digital copies purchased on the Microsoft Store or PlayStation Store, you will be able to download the upgraded version when it becomes available.

“For physical copies, you will be able to download the upgraded version when it becomes available. The disc must be inserted to launch both the current-gen and next-gen versions of the game.

“Next-gen upgrades are not available for physical versions of the game if you have upgraded to a discless console. It is also not possible to upgrade from a digital current-gen edition to a physical next-gen edition.

“Once you have completed the upgrade, you will still be able to play your game on your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

“Any additional digital content unlocked on the current-gen version of the game will be transferred to the next-gen version, including Season Passes, pre-order offers, and Ubisoft Club rewards.”

ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: Ubisoft Toronto-developed open-world shooter Far Cry 6 will be released on February 18, 2021, the French publisher announced on Sunday during its first fully digital conference, Ubisoft Forward.

It also confirmed a Watch Dogs Legion release date of October 29, 2020. The game is expected to release first for current-gen consoles and PC, and will be a launch title for next-gen consoles.

And Ubisoft announced an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla release date of November 17, 2020 – two days before rival action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 launches.
