UK comic Bob Mortimer stars in Murals, the next game from Battletoads and Disney Illusion Island dev Dlala Studios
The action adventure game is due for release next year
The next game from Dlala Studios, the developer behind the Battletoads reboot, has been revealed.
Murals is set for release on PC in 2027, and is an action adventure game set within “familiar-ish fairy tales, fables, and other fictional worlds”.
Players travel between lands, helping twisted versions of such characters as Rapunzel, the Little Mermaid and Hansel and Gretel.
The game will also star UK comedian Bob Mortimer, known for being one half of the comedy double-act Reeves and Mortimer, as well as Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing and his appearances in ensemble shows like Would I Lie to You and Last One Laughing.
Mortimer will play Magic Dave, a scarecrow-like apothecary who gives the player power-ups called Eeries. The game isn’t a roguelike, however: while the player can choose their Eeries and can reroll for different choices, they do get to keep the Eeries they earn for the rest of the game.
“We’ve been really focused on making sure that the combat feels great and gives players the freedom to experiment and find their own unique setups to battle our baddies”, Dlala Studios CEO and game director said in a statement.
“As cliché as it sounds, we’ve poured our hearts and souls into Murals, and I’m exceptionally proud of what our team has accomplished. I can’t wait to hear what people think as we show it off for the first time at Gamescom! Unless it’s bad. Then I’m just going to stick my fingers in my ears and hum the theme song to Community.”
This is the first original IP Dlala has worked on in 21 years. “Not only are we taking advantage of the creative freedom that entails, but we’re also publishing Murals ourselves,” head of publishing Marcus Purvis said. “It’s all on our shoulders this time around, and we couldn’t be more excited. Especially me, as it literally is the reason I have a job.”
Dlala’s last game was Disney Illusion Island, which was released on Switch in 2023 and came to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in May 2025.
