Ubisoft has reportedly delayed the next Assassin’s Creed game to spring 2023
It’s claimed the title, codenamed Rift, will be set in the Middle East
Ubisoft has reportedly delayed its next Assassin’s Creed game to the spring of 2023.
While not officially announced, Bloomberg reported in February that Ubisoft was planning to release a smaller-scale, stealth-focused Assassin’s Creed game this year or in 2023.
Codenamed Rift and starring Assassin’s Creed Valhalla character Basim, the title was originally planned as an expansion for the most recent series entry before being spun into a standalone game last year, it claimed.
On Thursday Ubisoft said it had delayed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and “a smaller unannounced premium game” to its next fiscal year beginning in April 2023.
The smaller game is Rift, according to Bloomberg, which reported on Friday that Ubisoft has pushed its release window from February 2023 to May-June next year.
Rift is reportedly set in the Middle East, including Baghdad, with development being led by Ubisoft’s Bordeaux studio.
The game is expected to be released before the officially announced Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which is a collaboration between Ubisoft Quebec (Odyssey) and Ubisoft Montreal (Origins and Valhalla).
While previous series entries have taken place in specific historical periods, Infinity will reportedly be a platform for future Assassin’s Creed games containing multiple settings that can be expanded over time.
