An Italian retailer has seemingly leaked the release date for the Battlefield 2042 beta.
A promotional image in the listing reads (in Italian): “Pre-order this product by September 3 and you will receive access to the early beta of the game from September 6 to September 11.”
UPDATE: An EA spokesperson declined to comment on the specific retail listing, when asked by VGC, stating: “Our Open Beta release window is September.”
UPDATE 2: The Battlefield 2042 beta release date has been set for September 22, two separate sources have claimed.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: Electronic Arts has previously confirmed that Battlefield 2042’s open beta will launch in September, but has yet to give an official date.
EA Play members and customers who pre-order any version of the game will receive early access to the open beta, it also confirmed on Thursday.
However, players who choose to pre-order the Battlefield 2042 Gold Edition for $89.99 on PC and $99.99 on consoles, or the Battlefield 2042 Ultimate Edition for $109.99 on PC and $119.99 on consoles, will receive early access to the game beginning on October 15.
Battlefield 2042’s new Hazard Zone will be inspired by Battlestate Games’ FPS Escape from Tarkov, a datamine of the game’s private tech playtest recently suggested.
According to details shared on social media by community dataminer @Temporyal, the mode – which is yet to be officially detailed by DICE – will have players battling AI enemies and fighting to reach extraction points without losing their loot.
In Escape from Tarkov, players are assigned an extraction point on the other side of the map, and must fight against other players and AI enemies in order to reach that point and escape with their collected loot.
In addition to these standard extractions, players are also given the opportunity to use optional extraction points but must achieve certain objectives in order to do so, such as by acquiring a certain piece of loot.
Battlefield 2042’s invite-only tech test took place on PC and Xbox last month. DICE cancelled its Battlefield 2042 technical playtest on PlayStation 5 due to “a critical issue”.
Testing will accommodate “a few thousand participants” ahead of wider testing in an open beta scheduled for September.
