Switch exclusive Sports Story has been delayed due to ‘ambitious’ plans

Sports Story, the sequel to 2017’s Switch exclusive Golf story, has been delayed.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the game’s developer Sidebar Games said: “We want to take some more time to work on Sports Story and ensure that everything makes it into the game.”

It added: “The game has become rather ambitious and we are excited about how it could turn out. But the price is currently being paid as we try to make our plans into reality.

“We are eager to reveal the results of these past 2 years so please look forward to future updates.”

Sports Story was announced during Nintendo’s December 2019 Indie World Showcase, with a “mid-2020” release window initially promised.

The action RPG is set to expand on the golf-focused original with tennis, fishing, dungeons, “espionage”, mini-games and more, Sidebare said at the time.

Golf Story received favourable reviews upon its release in September 2017 and went on to be nominated for Best Debut and Best Debut Indie Game at the GDC Awards and The Game Awards.

A new Indie World Showcase will take place this Tuesday, August 18 at 9am PT / 5pm BST. It will last for approximately 20 minutes and include information on indie games coming to Nintendo Switch.
