Payday 3 developer Starbreeze has apologised for the ongoing wait for the heist game’s first patch.
Originally scheduled to arrive in early October, it promises to introduce over 200 quality of life improvements for all platforms.
“Despite our silence, we want to assure you all that the team is still working on our main priority, which is to get the patch we promised out to you, and to make sure our patching process allows us to continue publishing them at a steady cadence in the future,” Starbreeze said this week.
“We know it sucks to keep hearing the same thing”, it continued, before confirming that the update is “currently going through a testing and certification process”.
The studio said the patch was delayed after it found critical errors with its update pipeline following the game’s release, which needed to be urgently addressed to avoid the possibility of player progression being wiped.
“We see a lot of your feedback about the progression system,” it added. “Our designers are looking at how the system can be adapted to balance both the challenge system as well as offering infamy points for each heist, and we’ll come back with more information on what this looks like soon.”
Starbreeze said it expects to be in a position to start adding free content to the game before the end of the year.
“We see your frustration and anger, and we can assure you this is not a situation we want to be in,” it added. “The team is working hard on a game that will be supported for years to come and making Payday 3 the new criminal dawn!”
The studio provided an overview of Payday 3’s DLC roadmap prior to the game’s release, when it said four add-on packs would arrive in its first year.
Syntax Error was scheduled to launch in winter 2023, followed by Boys in Blue in spring 2024, The Land of the Free next summer, and Fear and Greed in autumn 2024.
Examples of additional content players can expect after the game’s release include “playable characters, new enemy, weapons, Unreal Engine 5 upgrade, cosmetics, quality of life improvements, new features and much more”, it said.
