Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake reportedly ‘not currently in development’
Embracer chose not to provide an update on the project when asked about it last week
Embracer’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is reportedly no longer in active development.
That’s according to Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb, who discussed the status of the game in light of a recent comment made by Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors.
“I noticed that anything I say to this becomes a headline, so that is my only comment,” the executive said last week when asked how he was feeling about the remake, which was previously confirmed to be in development at Embracer-owned studios Aspyr Media and Saber Interactive.
“The rumour was that it got taken away from Aspyr, which has done lot of these Star Wars remasters and moved over to Saber Interactive,” Grubb said.
“There have been rumours that it’s moved elsewhere since then. I just want to clear it up – this this game is not being worked on right now, full stop. This game is not being worked on in any way at any studio.”
Billed as a collaboration between Aspyr and production partners Lucasfilm Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game was announced as a timed PS5 console exclusive during a PlayStation Showcase event in September 2021.
But the remake has reportedly been beset by problems over the last couple of years. Bloomberg claimed last summer that Aspyr had stopped working on the game and that the future of the title was up in the air.
Embracer had earlier confirmed that Saber Interactive was also working on the game, and some of Bloomberg’s sources said they believed it was possible Saber had taken over the development of the project entirely.
In September, Sony claimed that expired music licenses were behind its recent move to unpublish social media posts about the game and delist its reveal trailer.

“Just to 100% confirm it, this game is not being worked on right now,” Grubb reiterated.
He also said he’d “heard echoes” that Sony wants “absolutely nothing to do with this going forward”.
