Spider-Man 2 trailer reveals open-world gameplay in an expanded New York setting

Sony has released a new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trailer providing a look at its open-world gameplay and its expanded New York setting.

Narrated by Insomniac senior creative director Bryan Intihar, the video below shows off new locations players will get to visit in the sequel as well as fresh ways of traversing New York.

“I’m here to provide a first look at how the open-world experience is evolving and how the game is built to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5,” he says.

“The first thing you’ll notice is that our city has nearly doubled in size with the addition of two iconic New York boroughs, Queens and Brooklyn.

“And we’ve introduced the web-wings, an entirely new mechanic that, when combined with web-swinging, allows you to traverse the city in a whole new way and at faster speeds than ever before.”

The Chrysler Building, which was featured in 2018’s Spider-Man but was absent from 2020’s spin-off Miles Morales, is also missing from the sequel as Insomniac was unable to secure a copyright agreement with the building’s new owners.

Sony has also released another Spider-Man 2 trailer, which is viewable below, showing off some of the contents of its Digital Deluxe Edition ($79.99 / £79.99 / €89.99).

It includes the base game, all pre-order bonuses, plus 10 unique suits (five for each hero), additional Photo Mode frames and stickers, and two extra skill points.

Sony launched a Spider-Man 2 special edition PS5 console bundle, console covers and DualSense controller earlier this month.

The Spider-Man 2 release date is October 20, 2023.
