Sony has cut the PS5 Slim Digital Edition price by $70 until Christmas

Sony Interactive Entertainment has cut the price of the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition console in the United States in a limited-time offer.

In a deal running until December 24, “while supplies last”, the PS5 Slim Digital Edition is available with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $379.99.

The offer, which knocks $70 off the disc-free console’s normal $449.99 price, was revealed at the end of a new ‘Play Has No Limits’ PS5 advert, which is viewable below.

At the time of publishing, the reduced price point has yet to be applied on Sony’s PlayStation Direct online store, where the console is still listed for $449.99.

The standard PS5 Slim console costs $499.99, while the newly launched PS5 Pro console retails $699.99.

Sony said last week that it shipped some 3.8 million PS5 consoles during its second quarter ended in September – down 29% compared to the same period last year – taking its life-to-date total to 65.5 million. This means that PS5 is a few million units behind where PS4 was during the same period of its lifecycle (67.5 million units shipped).

The PlayStation business is expected to post record operating income in Sony’s current fiscal year, partly due to strong sales of third-party games and PlayStation Plus subscriptions, and it intends to focus on a mix of single-player and live service games going forward.
