Single-player Gears Tactics has no microtransactions
Gears of War spin-off also gets new trailer and April 2020 PC release date
Gears Tactics is a single-player game and won’t feature any microtransactions whatsoever, according to The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson.
Microsoft revealed new details about Gears of War’s real time strategy spin-off at The Game Awards on Thursday.
The trailer above includes a look at some of the character and equipment customisation options that will be available in Gears Tactics, all of which will be unlocked by playing.
“For those asking, #GearsTactics is single player and has no micro transactions,” Fergusson tweeted. “Not even cosmetic ones. Everything is earned in game.”
Developed in partnership with Splash Damage, the game promises to deliver a “40+ hour campaign” set 12 years before the original Gears of War title at the outset of the Locust war.
According to the official blurb: “Cities on the planet Sera are beginning to fall to the monstrous threat rising from underground – the Locust Horde. With the government in disarray, a squad of survivors emerge as humanity’s last hope.
“Play as Gabe Diaz, recruiting, equipping and commanding your squads on a desperate mission to hunt down the relentless and powerful leader of the Locust army: Ukkon, the evil mastermind who makes monsters.”
Gears Tactics was originally revealed as a PC exclusive at E3 2018, but was later confirmed for Xbox One too.
Microsoft announced on Thursday that the game is coming to Steam, Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass for PC on April 28, 2020, with a console launch date yet to be confirmed.
Players who pre-order Gears Tactics or play it on Xbox Game Pass for PC before May 4 will receive the Thrashball Cole character pack, which unlocks Augustus ‘Cole Train’ Cole and his armour set featuring rare abilities.
