Shigeru Miyamoto drops more hints about The Legend of Zelda movie
The film is set for release on April 30, 2027
Shigeru Miyamoto has dropped more hints about The Legend of Zelda movie, including confirmation that it won’t have a subtitle.
“The title is The Legend of Zelda,” Miyamoto stated during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. “Once you see the film, you’ll understand why there isn’t a subtitle.
“This is an original film based on the many stories, ideas, and concepts of the series, built up through the games for 40 years. Through the creative power and visual expertise of the talented production team, It’s become an artistic work worthy of The Legend of Zelda series.
“Both the development team from Nintendo and I are also involved, of course. When we talk about the Legend of Zelda, there’s the Triforce. What role do you think it will play in the film? We’ll share more details at a later time, so please look forward to it.”
The movie stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda, who were shown in the first official photos from the film last year.
Other cast members include Australian actor Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf. Latukefu is best known as the actor who played the teenage and young adult versions of Dwayne Johnson in the TV series Young Rock, and has reportedly signed a multi-picture deal, suggesting he will play Ganondorf in multiple live-action Zelda films.
Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders star Sam Neill, who passed away in July, will also star in the movie, along with Dichen Lachman (who plays Ms Casey in Severance) as Impa, and Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale) as “a queen character”.
The film’s director is Wes Ball, who’s best known for directing The Maze Runner trilogy of movies and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Ball is joined by cinematographer Gyula Pados, who worked on two of the Maze Runner movies and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, as well as such titles as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Predators.
According to previous reports, The Legend of Zelda movie could be part of a planned trilogy. Movie industry insider Daniel Richtman previously claimed that all major acting roles were being signed for three films planned over six years, a claim given more weight by Deadline’s report that Latukefu has inked a multi-film deal to play Ganondorf.
