Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda’s ‘Gen Atlas’ revealed
The game was first announced at The Game Awards 2024
A new title and trailer have been revealed for Fumito Ueda’s next game.
Ueda, who’s best known for Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, first revealed his new game at The Game Awards 2024.
It was previously announced that the game, which had the working title Project Robot, was in development at genDESIGN, a Tokyo-based studio led by Ueda and composed of a team of veteran developers from Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian.
Now, at today’s Summer Game Fest showcase, the game’s final title – Gen Atlas – was revealed, along with a new trailer for it.
Gen Atlas is a single-player open-world action adventure being published by Epic Games. The game will be released on PC (exclusively on the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but no release window has been confirmed yet.
“Without knowing why, you awaken on an abandoned planet,” the game’s new official description reads. “Before you lies a vast, silent world. Colossal structures stretch over endless plains, deserted facilities, and an ever-changing sea. The remnants of some grand design litter the planet’s surface.
“As you journey deeper into this strange world, a colossal robot awaits. Its overwhelming power opens paths to places once beyond reach, transforming your conception of the world. Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more.”
In a statement marking the new announcement, Ueda said: “The team and I are grateful to all the fans who’ve been eager to learn more about our game. Their passion and enthusiasm has always motivated and inspired us. We hope to share an experience that inspires moments of quiet wonder and discovery.”
