The digital versions of the standalone games included in Sonic Origins will be removed from sale ahead of the collection’s release.
Sega said on Tuesday that it plans to delist Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD on May 20.
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 will however remain available via Sega Ages for Nintendo Switch, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will still be playable via Sega Genesis/Mega Drive for Nintendo Switch Online.
Sonic Origins - Official Trailer
Each of the classic Sonic games included will have brand new opening and ending animations and will feature Classic and Anniversary modes.
The Classic mode will show the game in its original resolution and have limited lives like it did in the 16-bit era.
The Anniversary mode, meanwhile, will give players infinite lives and will present the game in a new widescreen resolution.
Sega recently confirmed that specific modes, features and even visual elements in Sonic Origins will be locked away as premium additions.
While the standard $39.99 edition of Sonic Origins includes the main game itself, players will also need the Start Dash Pack, Premium Fun Pack and Classic Music Pack if they want everything the game has to offer.
The Start Dash pack is ‘free’ DLC but is only included if players pre-order the game, while the other two are paid DLC.
In its third week in cinemas, the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie has reportedly become the highest-grossing video game film of all time in the US.
