Secret PlayStation VR 2 specs look impressive, Digital Foundry claims
Unrevealed specs “make it look even better” than the leaked ones
PlayStation VR 2 looks set to impress based on unrevealed specs reportedly seen by Digital Foundry.
In the tech site’s latest DF Direct Weekly video (below), technology editor Richard Leadbetter seemingly references PSVR 2 details leaked in May, before claiming to have seen even more impressive specs for Sony’s upcoming headset.
“One thing I think that is kind of heartening is that Sony is doing PSVR 2 for the PlayStation 5,” he said.
“We’ve seen some leaked specs and it looks good. We’ve seen some other specs which haven’t been leaked which make it look even better.
“So, hopefully VR will be able to expand, there will be more choice in the headset arena, and also I’m quite looking forward to seeing what this new Sony controller is about,” Leadbetter added.
UPDATE 05/08/21: New PlayStation VR 2 headset and controller details have reportedly leaked via a developer conference. It’s also claimed Sony wants to focus on “console-quality AAA titles” for PSVR 2.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: According to multiple UploadVR sources, PSVR 2 will offer a resolution of 4000×2080 pixels (2000×2040 per eye).
It will also include gaze tracking capable of foveated rendering, a lens separation adjustment dial, and a vibration motor allowing developers to provide direct haptic feedback, Sony has reportedly informed partners.
PlayStation first announced it was working on a “next-generation VR system” designed for PS5 earlier this year.
The new headset will feature “dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity”, enabling players to feel “an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds”, it said in an announcement in February
A month later, Sony revealed the new controllers for the PS5 VR system, which have an “orb” shaped design and feature adaptive triggers and haptic feedback like the PS5’s DualSense controller.
Sony is reportedly planning to release the successor to PlayStation VR in the 2022 holiday season.
