The fifth game in the Saints Row series has been officially announced.
Simply titled Saints Row and set for release in February 2022, the game is a reboot of the series and is set in a south-western American region called Santo Ileso.
The news was revealed via a CG trailer during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event.
The player is part of a group of criminals named the Saints, who are trying to make it as a new crime syndicate in Santo Ileso. As the Boss, you team up with three other would-be criminals, Neenah, Kevin and Eli.
As in most previous Saints Row games, there are also three rival gangs in the region, each with their own different style and characteristics: Los Panteros, The Idols and Marshall Defense Technologies.
Players will have to overthrow the three factions in an attempt to take over Santo Ileso and grow the ultimate criminal empire.
As ever, they will be able to customise their Boss, with what Volition says is “the most extensive character customisation suite ever seen in the series”.
“Welcome to Santo Ileso, a vibrant fictional city in the heart of the American SouthWest,” reads a description for the game on the official Saints Row website.
“In a world rife with crime, where lawless factions fight for power, a group of young friends embark on their own criminal venture, as they rise to the top in their bid to become Self Made.
“Experience the biggest and best Saints Row playground ever created: the unique sprawling world of Santo Ileso is the backdrop for a wild, larger than life sandbox of thrilling side hustles, criminal ventures and blockbuster missions, as you shoot, drive, and wingsuit your way to the top.”
“This full reboot is the most fun and exhilaration we’ve packed into a Saints Row experience to date,” Volition chief creative officer Jim Boone said in a statement.
“The iconic new location brings so many exciting opportunities to delight players, whether they are long-time fans of the series or jumping in for the first time.”
