Housemarque has put all other projects on hold to focus on what it calls its “biggest and most ambitious” game yet.
That includes sci-fi battle royale title Stormdivers, which was revealed in 2018 as the studio announced its intention to go in a new direction following two decades spent creating arcade coin-op inspired games.
The veteran Finnish developer behind Resogun and Super Stardust turns 25 this summer and in a blog post celebrating the upcoming anniversary, CEO Ilari Kuittinen said it will be a milestone year for the company.
A team of 80 people is developing Housemarque’s upcoming title, which has been in the works for almost three years and is now in full scale production.
“So now we are focused on delivering our most ambitious and biggest game to date, putting every other project on hold, including the development of Stormdivers,” Kuittinen said.
“It is great that the whole company can come together to deliver this game, which will define the next evolution of Housemarque.”
“We are eagerly awaiting the day we can announce it,” Kuittinen said of the mystery game. “At the same time, it is always nerve-wracking to anticipate what your reaction will be when we do finally complete development and the game is out for everyone to enjoy.
“We’ve never delivered anything at this scale before. The time is drawing ever closer when our publishing partner will reveal what we are working on, with the launch coming after that. This year will be full of exciting surprises, and we can’t wait to experience them with all of you!“
