Pokémon Go has earned more than $5 billion in revenue since it was originally released, according to analytics data.
Store Intelligence data gathered by Sensor Tower shows that the game earned $641.6 million in the first half of 2021, marking its best ever start to a year.
According to Sensor Tower, Pokemon Go earned record revenue in 2020, earning $1.3 billion for the entire year. With that first half 2021 revenue figure of $641.6 million, it’s on track to deliver similar results this year.

The United States and Japan are by far the game’s biggest generators of revenue according to the data, with around 36% and 32% of its lifetime player spending coming from those countries respectively. The third biggest is Germany with 5.4%.
The data also estimates that while 77% of Pokemon Go’s total installs were for the Android version of the game, player spending on Android only accounts for around 52.8% of player spending, implying that Apple players spend more on the game on average.
When all the data is taken into account, the average amount of money spent per player on the game to date is $7.91.
Pokemon Go was released in the summer of 2016 and has continued to enjoy success, even during the global pandemic where developer Niantic tweaked elements of the game’s mechanics to cater for players not able to leave their homes.
Earlier this year Pokémon Go developer Niantic announced a new partnership with Nintendo to jointly develop real-world AR mobile games using its stable of characters, starting with a Pikmin app releasing later this year.
