PlayStation reveals streaming portable device, ‘Project Q’

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new PlayStation streaming portable device, ‘Project Q’.

Announced during a PlayStation Showcase event on Wednesday, Project Q is described as “a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 console using remote play over wi-fi”.

According to SIE, the device has an 8-inch 1080p HD screen and all the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller.

During the same showcase, PlayStation revealed its first official wireless earbuds offering lossless audio on PS5 and PC

No further information was revealed on Project Q. “More details to come in the months ahead,” SIE said.

SIE CEO Jim Ryan provided a wide-ranging PlayStation update during a Sony business segment briefing on Tuesday.

During the presentation, he claimed PlayStation VR2 sales were tracking ahead of its predecessor after its first six weeks of availability.

Ryan said 30% of PlayStation Plus users are subscribed to the more expensive Premium and Extra tiers, which were introduced last summer.

He also said Sony has “some fairly interesting and quite aggressive plans” to accelerate cloud gaming initiatives “that will unfold over the course of the coming months”.

And PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst said Bungie is being used to help rigorously vet the 12 live service games Sony has in development.
