Persona 4 Revival producer says remakes of Persona 1 and 2 are ‘something we should definitely do’
Kazuhisa Wada says he can’t say it’s happening but “I think we have to do it”
The producer of the upcoming remake of Persona 4 says Atlus should remake of the first two games in the series at some point.
Persona 4 Revival, which is set for release on February 18, 2027, is a remake of 2012 title Persona 4 Golden, which itself is an expanded version of 2008 release Persona 4.
It follows Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the third Persona game, which was released in 2024, but fans have been asking whether the first two games will ever get the remake treatment too.
In a recent interview with Gamer Braves, Persona 4 Revival Kazuhisa Wada was asked whether fans would ever see Persona and Persona 2 remakes, or whether Atlus‘s focus was shifting entirely to Persona 6 once Persona 4 Revival is released.
“At this point, I can’t say for sure,” Wada replied. “But personally, I think it’s something we should definitely do. I think we have to do it.”
The first game in the series, Revelations: Persona, was released on the PS1 in 1996, and later ported to PSP in 2009 with an updated UI, increased battle speed, balancing adjustments and a new soundtrack.
This was followed by Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, two separate games released on PS1 in 1999 and 2000 respectively. Both games were ported to PSP in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Since then, Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment have generally lain dormant as Atlus continues to favour the more recent third, fourth and fifth entries in the series, which have received numerous remakes and spin-offs.
Atlus confirmed during the Xbox Games Showcase in June that Persona 6 is currently in development, and will be available on Game Pass on day one.
“The highly anticipated next chapter of the iconic RPG series delivers a bold, new standalone story blending heartfelt daily life and new characters with pulse-pounding, supernatural adventure,” the Persona 6 description reads. “Whether it’s your first Persona game or you’ve been here since the beginning, this one’s for you.”
While the Persona series has seen a wide number of spin-offs, re-releases, remasters and remakes in recent years, the last main entry – Persona 5 – was released back in 2016, meaning fans have been waiting a decade for the next major instalment.
