The company claimed in January that Payday 2 had sold over 40 million copies since its 2013 release and boasted the largest community on Steam with over eight million players.
Payday 2 replaces Midnight Ghost Hunt, which was previously free to claim from the Epic Games Store.
Earlier this week, a highly reliable leaker claimed the game is planned for release on September 21.
Taking place in contemporary New York, the co-op heist shooter will see the original gang – Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains – coming out of retirement in a world that has further transitioned into the digital age.
Starbreeze has said software giants, cryptocurrencies, mass surveillance and the Dark Web will play a role in the game, and they will be reflected in updated gadgetry that the gang uses.
The Epic Games Store gave away 99 free titles last year (up from 89 in 2021). These games had a combined worth of $2,240 and users claimed over 700 million free titles (down from 765 million in 2021), according to Epic.
