Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is coming to Switch
The GameCube RPG has a cult following among fans
Nintendo has announced an HD remaster of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
The remaster will be released in 2024, two decades after the game was originally released on the GameCube.
The Thousand-Year Door has a cult following among fans, many of whom believe it’s the best RPG in the Mario series.
The game has Mario trying to rescue Peach from a group of aliens called the X-Nauts.
“Turn the page and join Mario and friends in an RPG adventure to discover the legendary treasure behind the ancient Thousand-Year Door,” reads Nintendo’s description of the game.
“Will Mario complete his papery quest, or will he crumple under the pressure? Find out when Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door unfolds on Nintendo Switch in 2024.
“More information about this game will be available in the future.”
The Thousand-Year Door was released to critical acclaim in 2004, and currently has a score of 87 on Metacritic.
The game won Console Role Playing Game of the Year at the 8th Interactive Achievement Awards (now known as the DICE Awards).
It’s not the only classic Mario RPG currently getting primed for a re-release – a complete remake of SNES title Super Mario RPG is also in development, and is set to be released on November 17.
