Nintendo will add N64’s Paper Mario to its Switch Online Expansion Pack service on Friday, December 10, it’s announced.
The classic role-playing game will be the first new N64 title added to the Expansion Pack tier following its launch in October.
“Prepare yourself for a flat-out hilarious adventure, from the tropical jungles of Lavalava Island to the frosty heights of Shiver Mountain, when Paper Mario pops up in the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online library,” the company said.
“In Paper Mario, his vile viciousness – Bowser himself – has absconded with the magical Star Rod and lifted Peach’s Castle into the sky with the help of Kammy Koopa. Who will stop him now? It’s up to Mario (and you!) to save all seven of the Star Spirits, guarded by Bowser’s handpicked minions. Can you rise to the occasion and pull off a storybook ending?”
Switch Online’s N64 library launched in October with nine games including Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Yoshi’s Story, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Tennis, Dr Mario 64, Sin & Punishment and WinBack.
A further seven titles have been confirmed to be coming soon, including Banjo-Kazooie, Paper Mario, Pokémon Snap, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Mario Golf and F-Zero X.
Switch’s N64 library is set to receive more than 20 additional titles in the future, if a recent datamine of the platform is to be believed.
That’s according to analysis by Twitter user MondoMega, who has worked out using the launch games’ database IDs that at least 38 games are planned in total for the service.
That represents 17 more N64 titles than were released for both Wii and Wii U’s Virtual Console service.
