Outer Wilds is officially getting an expansion this year
Echoes of the Eye will release in September
Annapurna Interactive’s critically acclaimed space exploration game, Outer Wilds, is officially getting an expansion.
The publisher and the game’s developer Mobius Digital announced on Thursday that Echoes of the Eye, Outer Wild’s “final campfire tale”, will release for consoles and PC on September 28.
“Outer Wilds is back with one final campfire tale that will have you shaking in your suit,” Mobius said. “Prepare your gear and step carefully, young spacefarer, as you’ll delve into hidden depths…”
Another synopsis for the expansion reads: “A strange satellite photo that can’t be explained. A new museum exhibit that marks the trailhead for one last journey into the wilds. Should you pull at the thread and unravel the solar system’s deepest secret, or is some knowledge better left in the dark?”
Inspired by films including Apollo 13 and 2001: A Space Odyssey, Outer Wilds is described as an “open world mystery about a solar system trapped in an endless time loop”.
The space exploration game debuted for PC (via the Epic Games Store) and Xbox One (including on Game Pass) in May 2019, before making its way to PS4 in October 2019 and Steam in June 2020. It’s due to release on Nintendo Switch later this year.
The title won multiple Game of the Year awards from publications including Giant Bomb, Polygon, Eurogamer and The Guardian.
