Nintendo’s new Mario edition Switch is the console’s first colour change
Mario Red & Blue Edition will release alongside Super Mario 3D World in February
Nintendo will release a new Mario Red & Blue Edition Nintendo Switch console next month, to commemorate the mascot’s 35th anniversary.
This special edition hardware will release on February 12 for $299.99, alongside the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario 3D World, which received a new trailer on Tuesday.
The console includes red Joy-Con controllers with blue straps, a blue Joy-Con grip, a red Nintendo Switch dock and a red Nintendo Switch system – marking the first time the Switch system itself has been available in a new colour.
The bundle will also include a Mario Red & Blue Edition Carrying Case and a screen protector, according to Nintendo.
“We hope players enjoy pouncing their way through two great Mario adventures in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, with lots of feline fun to be had whether playing solo or with family and friends,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s senior VP of marketing.
“Along with the Nintendo Switch – Mario Red & Blue Edition system, we’re delighted to offer these new products that mark more than 35 years of Super Mario adventures.”
The special Switch hardware arrives as part of Super Mario’s 35th anniversary celebrations. In addition to 3D All-Stars – a collection of classic 3D Mario games – Nintendo has released several additional Mario games for Switch recently.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit allows players to race a real physical kart and upgraded versions of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3 are available via Super Mario All-Stars on Nintendo Switch Online.
Finally, Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. is a collectable device featuring classic Mario games released last year.
