Nintendo is donating 50m JPY to support earthquake victims, offers free repairs to those affected

Nintendo has announced that it will be donating ¥50 million ($340,000) to support those affected by the earthquake in Japan’s Noto Peninsula.

The 7.6 magniture earthquake struck on New Year’s Day and resulted in the deaths of 222 people, with a further 22 still missing, according to the Ishikawa Prefectural Government.

The company has now posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) announcing that it will be donating to help support the area, and will also be offering free repairs to anyone who had Nintendo hardware damaged by the quake.

“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024,” the message reads.

“We will provide free of charge repair services for our products requested by people in areas covered by the Disaster Relief Act, following the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake,for a period of six months from the date of application of the Disaster Relief Act in each area.

“In addition, we will donate 50 million yen through the Japanese Red Cross Society to assist those affected by the disaster.”

Nintendo’s gesture follows a similar donation by The Pokémon Company made earlier this year.

On January 6, The Pokémon Company announced that it would be donating ¥50 million to support those affected by the earthquake.

“The Pokémon Company has decided to donate 50 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society and donations to support organizations in order to help those affected by the disaster and to help restore the affected areas,” it wrote.

“Additionally, through the Pokémon With You Foundation, we will continue to carry out activities to help children affected by the disaster regain their smiles. We sincerely pray for the earliest possible recovery and reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas.”
