Nintendo confirms 2 Nintendo Directs, including Zelda 40th Anniversary

Nintendo has announced it will livestream a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct next week, followed by a second general Nintendo Direct.

The Zelda presentation will take place on September 8 at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm BST and last about 30 minutes. As its name suggests, the Zelda Direct will share information about how Nintendo plans to commemorate the Zelda series’ 40th anniversary.

Then a general Nintendo Direct will take place on September 9 at 7am PT/ 10am ET / 3pm BST and last around 45 minutes. According to Nintendo, the Direct will focus on Nintendo Switch 2 software releasing this winter.

Following the general Direct, a Nintendo Treehouse: Live will stream on YouTube featuring gameplay of select titles featured. The livestream will last roughly 110 minutes.

This marks the first time that Nintendo has held two full Nintendo Direct live streams in the same week.

Nintendo has yet to confirm any official plans for The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary, but a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is due for release later this year, and the live-action Legend of Zelda movie hits cinemas on April 30.

Recently, images claiming to show a special edition Zelda Nintendo Switch 2 console and Pro Controller also appeared online, suggesting that limited hardware will be part of Nintendo’s plans for the anniversary.

For Super Mario Bros.’ 40th anniversary, Nintendo marked the ocassion with various games, including Galaxy and Galaxy 2 Switch ports, and special merchandise.

Nintendo’s line-up for the rest of the year includes Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave (Sep 17), Nintendo Switch Sports Resort (Oct 22), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
