New Spider-Man 2 screenshots show off Times Square and Brooklyn
With the addition of new locations, the sequel’s map is twice the size of the original game’s
Three new Spider-Man 2 screenshots have been published, showing off several locations players will get to visit in the upcoming sequel.
The screenshots below were released as part of a New York Times feature focused on the game’s recreation of New York City.
They show off Times Square, plus Coney Island and the Grand Army Plaza arch in Brooklyn.
“We’ve added Queens and Brooklyn this time, so roughly speaking the map size is about two times larger than the previous titles,” Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar recently told Famitsu (via Gamatsu).
“Since these two areas are somewhat smaller and residential, I think you’ll find them different from Manhattan. We’ve prepared some unexpected situations we haven’t done before, like a battle on the river between two of the cities, so I hope you’ll look forward to them.”
“In terms of the size of the city, it’s double the size compared to Spider-Man 1,” Intihar also told the Washington Post. “When you play in Queens, there’s much more of a neighborhood feel, smaller buildings, which is why the web wings work so well traversing in that area, where you can swing low to the ground if you want to, or you can fly through.”
The Chrysler Building, which was featured in 2018’s Spider-Man but was absent from 2020’s spin-off Miles Morales, is also missing from the sequel as Insomniac was unable to secure a copyright agreement with the building’s new owners, according to the New York Times.
Sony launched a Spider-Man 2 special edition PS5 console bundle, console covers and DualSense controller earlier this month.
The Spider-Man 2 release date is October 20, 2023.
