Netflix says GTA 6: An Extended Look got 31.1 million views and topped its charts in nearly every country

Netflix has shared some viewing data on last week’s broadcast of Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look.

According to the streaming service, the 27-minute video was viewed 31.1 million times between its debut on August 27 and the end of its chart week on August 30, meaning it hit that number in around four days.

The company also revealed that the presentation was Number 1 in its charts in 87 of the 93 countries it tracks.

The video was then posted on YouTube six hours later, where it has since racked up a further 17 million views on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel.

It should be noted that Netflix and YouTube calculate their views differently. As of August 24, YouTube now counts a view as the second a video has started, meaning if someone starts a video then stops watching after 10 seconds it’s already counted as a view.

Meanwhile, Netflix calculates its views by taking the total watch time of a video among all users, then dividing it by the runtime of the video. Theoretically, then, this means if two people only watch half of a video, that would count as a single view.

This makes it harder to compare the performance of the Extended Look to previous GTA 6 trailer. The first GTA 6 trailer managed 93 million views in its first day, though that video was exclusive to YouTube.

The second trailer currently sits at 181 million views on YouTube, but Rockstar previously claimed it had received over 475 million views across all platforms in its first day, without detailing the platforms and channels analysed.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will release on November 19, in both digital and physical editions, but the physical version will be a code in a box rather than a disc.

The standard edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 will retail for $80 USD, and the Ultimate Edition, which contains various in-game rewards, will retail for $100 USD. Players who purchase the standard version of Grand Theft Auto 6 will be able to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition at any time.
