Mortal Kombat 1 is getting story DLC followed by a ‘big surprise’, Ed Boon says
The game’s director teases that something major is on the way
Mortal Kombat 1 is getting story DLC in the future, along with something potentially more major after that, according to its director.
As shared on Twitter by user Wesley Carlos and spotted by IGN, series co-creator and Mortal Kombat 1 director Ed Boon was taking part in a panel at the CCXP23 event in Brazil.
Boon was asked by the event’s host what players could expect from the Mortal Kombat franchise over the next few years.
“Well, just like we did with Mortal Kombat 11, we’re going to release a second part with more story,” Boon confirmed.
He then added: “And we have a big surprise after that, so we’re going to be supporting the game for even longer than we did with Mortal Kombat 11. It’s gonna be fun.”
This week it was revealed that Quan Chi will be added to Mortal Kombat 1 as a DLC character on December 14 for early access players and December 21 for everyone else. He’ll be followed by Khameleon in January.
Mortal Kombat 1 was released on September 19 to general critical praise, with the game’s Metacritic score currently sitting at 85 on Xbox Series X/S and 83 on PS5.
VGC’s Mortal Kombat 1 review called it “the best Mortal Kombat game to date”, awarding it a score of 5/5.
“It looks stunning, has a brilliant Story mode, its new Invasions mode will keep solo players busy and, above all else, it’s an absolute joy to play,” we wrote. “Thoroughly essential for die-hards, lapsed fans and newkomers.”
