The headline mode features a series of interconnected Operations, in which teams of four players are tasked with completing multi-phased objectives tied into the overarching story of Modern Warfare.
Complementing Operations are “extremely replayable” Missions, which support 1-4 players. “Whereas Operations give you the widest breadth of strategic and tactical choice, Missions are a more curated experience where your proficiency with specific weapons, killstreaks, and other tools will be tested,” Activision says.
While Operations and Missions will be “available across all platforms at launch and through the post launch Seasons”, a third Special Ops mode called Survival is exclusive to PS4 until October 2020. It’s a horde mode that challenges up to four players to fight off waves of increasingly difficult enemies in a variety of situations on one of three multiplayer maps.
Modern Warfare features a unified narrative experience and progression across all game modes, meaning for example players can tackle Special Ops missions using preferred multiplayer loadouts and unlock items and equipment in Spec Ops for use in multiplayer.
Activision revealed in September that “most” Call of Duty Modern Warfare gameplay DLC will launch simultaneously for PS4, Xbox One and PC, including new multiplayer maps, multiplayer modes and Spec Ops content.
Several Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PS4 hardware bundles were revealed on Monday, alongside a new trailer focused on the game’s campaign.
Call of Duty: Mobile, which released on October 1, reportedly broke mobile launch records with over 100 million downloads across iOS and Android devices in its first week of availability.
