Retail sales for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls are unexpectedly low in Japan

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls sold fewer than 3,000 units in Japan in its first week

Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls has sold fewer copies than most other Arc System Works games in its first week in Japan.

That’s according to Game Data Library on X (formerly Twitter), which is reporting just 2,814 total copies were sold in its first week at retail.

Game Data Library goes on to say, “First week retail sales of Marvel Toukon in Japan were below 3k units. This is the worst launch for an Arc System fighter in Japan (excluding super niche stuff like DNF Duel), well below most of the Guilty Gear, BlazBlue and even Under Night in Birth. Very poor launch.”

This number does not include digital sales, but Game Data Library has thoughts on that also, saying, “I was thinking 10k was pessimistic, but now even with 70% digital sales it’s a very lackluster result. Needless to say it’s also well under all the Marvel vs. Capcom games, hell, it did less than half of the Marvel Fighting Collection, and the retail version was late!”

The launch of Fighting Souls has received a Mixed reception on Steam, with just 46% of English-language reviews giving a positive recommendation. The game received a peak concurrent player count of over 24,000 players near launch, but it is currently receiving fewer than 5,000 daily CCUs according to SteamDB.

The game has seen an uphill battle since its first PC open beta, when PSN became unavailable for a long period of time, leaving players unable to try the game.

Recently, a datamine uncovered skins, a Battle Pass, and potentially Rocket Raccoon as an upcoming DLC character.
