Mario Galaxy 2 is officially coming to Nintendo Switch, alongside Amiibo and more
A two-game Mario Galaxy collection will release next month

Nintendo has announced Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo Switch.
The two-game collection will be released physically on October 2 to mark the Super Mario series’ 40th anniversary, Nintendo announced during a Nintendo Direct on Friday. The two titles will also be available separately digitally via the Nintendo eShop.
Update
Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy Switch collection will retail for $70, it’s been confirmed. Each game will be available for $40 digitally.
According to Nintendo, both titles feature improved UI, the option to play with button and stick or motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content, and enhanced resolution. For Nintendo Switch 2, a free update will add 4K resolution support for both titles.
In addition, special Mario Galaxy amiibo figures will be released on April 2, 2026. Mario & Luma can be scanned in either game to receive a Life Mushroom, and Rosalina & Lumas will give players a 1-Up Mushroom.
Finally, Rosalina’s Storybook will receive an illustrated hardcover edition, featuring the original art and story from the Super Mario Galaxy game.

Galaxy 2 was a surprise omission from Switch’s Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a time-limited collection released to celebrate Mario’s latest big birthday milestone.
Released for Wii in 2010, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a rare direct sequel to a mainline Mario game, featuring six new worlds and the introduction of Yoshi.
The Galaxy collection’s announcement comes as Nintendo and Illumination confirmed that the next Mario Bros. Movie will also be based on Super Mario Galaxy.
A short teaser for the movie showed Mario lying outside Peach’s Castle. Nintendo also re-confirmed that the film will be released in cinemas in April 2026.
Nintendo also announced a new Mario sports entry, Mario Tennis Fever for Nintendo Switch 2, and a new Yoshi platformer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Switch title Super Mario Bros Wonder is also getting a Switch 2 Edition with new multiplayer modes, Nintendo announced.
