John Carpenter thinks another director is working on a Dead Space film
The Halloween maker previously said he could be interested in such a project
Filmmaker John Carpenter has suggested a Dead Space movie is in the works.
Last October, the famed director of horror films including Halloween, The Thing and The Fog was asked about if he’d ever thought of adapting a game.
“The only one I can think of, and I’ve mentioned it before, is Dead Space,” he told The A.V. Club. “That would make a real great movie. I could do that.”

Asked if there was any movement on a Dead Space film in a new Variety interview, Carpenter said he was never attached to such a project, but that he thinks another director is.
“I’m a big video game fan, so I played all the games,” he said. “I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a Dead Space film. That just went around, and everybody said, ‘Oh, when are you gonna do it?’ I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved. And they haven’t asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it. But there’s a new version of the Dead Space video game coming out in January, and I’m there.”
The remake of Visceral Games’ 2008 horror game Dead Space will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on January 27, 2023.
The launch trailer for Dead Space, which has been rebuilt with EA’s Frostbite engine by Star Wars Squadrons studio Motive, was released on Wednesday and is viewable above.
