Every big new announcement and update from Geoff Keighley’s annual show
Gamescom has officially gotten underway in Germany, but before the world’s most-attended gaming trade show kicked off, Geoff Keighley hosted his annual Opening Night Live presentation.
The show, which ran for just over two hours, included announcements about new games, as well as updates to existing titles.
Below is a round-up of the biggest news from the show. VGC is on the ground at Gamescom, and you can expect hands-on reports for some of the biggest games at the show soon.
Raccoon Logic officially announces Revenge of the Savage Planet
Raccoon Logic has announced the sequel to 2020 first-person adventure, Journey to the Savage Planet, Revenge of the Savage Planet
Announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, a teaser trailer revealed that the sequel will feature single-player, online co-op, crossplay, and split-screen modes.
Supermassive Games’ next horror title is ‘Directive 8020’
Supermassive Games has announced Directive 8020, A Dark Pictures game.
The horror title will be released in 2025 and stars Lashana Lynch.
The game’s debut trailer, which you can watch below, debuted at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Directive 8020 is coming to Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Borderlands 4 officially announced for release in 2025
Borderlands 4 has been announced for release in 2025.
“In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet,” reads the description accompanying the reveal trailer.
CoD: Black Ops 6’s first campaign footage shows off espionage gameplay
Activision has shown off the first campaign footage for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Debuted during Gamescom Opening Night Live, the gameplay trailer showed off a stealth section during which a player uses a camera to collect evidence. Following this, the mission descended into a more typical Call of Duty level.
Dying Light: The Beast, a new standalone game, has been announced
Dying Light: The Beast has been announced from Techland.
The game will feature “20+ hours of content,” and feature Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the first Dying Light game, according to an announcement.
Amazon announces ex-Lionhead devs’ ‘online co-op spectacle’ King of Meat
Amazon Games and UK-based Glowmade – a studio formed by ex-Lionhead Studios developers – have announced King of Meat.
Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, King of Meat is described as “a hacking, slashing online co-op spectacle” for one through four players, stepping into the role of “fearless contenders battling through ridiculous dungeons”.

Original Little Nightmares studio Tarsier reveals its new game, Reanimal
Tarsier, the studio behind the first two Little Nightmares titles, has revealed its new game, Reanimal.
“The creators of Little Nightmares return to take you on a darker, more terrifying journey than ever before,” according to an official description for the game. “In this horror adventure, a brother & sister go through hell to rescue their missing friends & escape the island that they used to call home”.
Genshin Impact is officially coming to Xbox
Genshin Impact is officially coming to Xbox Series X and S on November 20, developer miHoYo has announced.
The anime-style open-world game, which is monetized through gacha mechanics, first launched for PC, mobile, and PlayStation consoles in 2020.
New Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay shown at Gamescom Opening Night Live
Capcom premiered new Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay during the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase on Tuesday.
The game will be playable for the public for the first time during Gamescom, which is taking place this week in Cologne, Germany.
2K debuts first look at Civilization VII
2K and Firaxis have debuted the first look at Civilization VII.
The game will be released on February 11, 2025, the pair announced at Gamescom on Tuesday.
The game will be available in Standard and Deluxe editions. The Deluxe Edition will include five days of early access, enabling buyers to start playing from February 6.
Marvel Rivals is launching in December, and all heroes will be free
Marvel Rivals will be released later this year, it’s been announced.
The game received a December 6, 2024 release date during the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase on Tuesday.
It was also confirmed that all heroes will be free at launch and beyond.
Announced for PC in March and consoles in May, Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play 6v6 team-based shooter which is played from a third-person perspective.
Monument Valley 3 is officially coming to Netflix this year
Ustwo games has revealed Monument Valley 3, the latest installment in its award-winning puzzle series, for release on Netflix on December 10, 2024.
Unveiled during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Monument Valley 3 sees players guide a new hero, Noor, through a series of impossible landscapes and manipulating architecture.
According to its creator, Monument Valley 3 is designed to be an ideal entry point for newcomers, while offering new experiences for returning fans.
Starfield’s Shattered Space story expansion launches in September
A release date for Starfield’s first story expansion has been announced.
The game’s Shattered Space DLC will be released on September 30, 2024.
“Deep in the dark reaches of space, the followers of the Great Serpent live shrouded in mystery,” Xbox‘s description of the expansion reads.
“Begin an epic new story and explore House Va’ruun territory in Shattered Space, Starfield’s first major expansion.”
It has also been revealed that Starfield’s latest update, which introduces the REV-8 land vehicle, is available today.
Dune Awakening is coming to PC early access in 2025
Dune Awakening is coming to PC early access in 2025.
The game will arrive on PC first, with the console release coming “at a later date,” according to Funcom.
A new gameplay trailer was shown off during Gamescom Opening Night Live which demonstrated some of the game’s survival gameplay, as well as how it ties to the overall lore of the Dune series.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 gameplay teaser released
Warhorse Studios has debuted new gameplay footage from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Shown off at Opening Night Live, the trailer gives players their first look at some of the game’s central locations. A longer gameplay presentation will be released on Warhorse’s social accounts on Wednesday.
Following a leak earlier this month, the studio confirmed that the game had been delayed to February 11, 2025.
Amazon reveals series based on Mega Man, Spelunky, Unreal Tournament, and more
Prime Video has unveiled Secret Level, a new “adult-animated anthology series” featuring original stories set within the worlds of various video game series.
Games that inspired the 15 episodes include Armored Core, Concord, Crossfire, Dungeons & Dragons, Exodus, Honor of Kings, Mega Man, New World: Aeternum, PAC-MAN, various PlayStation Studios games, Sifu, Spelunky, The Outer Worlds, Unreal Tournament and Warhammer 40,000.
Secret Level is from Blur Studio, the animation and design company founded by Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool (2016), Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), and Love, Death & Robots (2019).
Batman: Arkham Shadow reveals first gameplay at Gamescom Opening Night Live
Oculus Studios and Camouflaj have revealed the first gameplay footage of Batman: Arkham Shadow.
The VR title, which will be released this October, was shown off during Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday.

Peter Molyneux unveils new god game Masters of Albion
Masters of Albion, a new game from Peter Molyneux, has been revealed during Opening Night Live.
The game is being developed by ex-Fable devs, as well as ex-Media Molecule boss Mark Healey, according to Molyneux, and is entirely self-funded. The game’s announcement trailer can be viewed below. No release date was given.
The game, which according to Molyneux takes elements from all of his previous work, is described as an “open-world God game.”
Path of Exile 2 early access release date revealed
Path of Exile 2’s early access release date has been confirmed as November 15, 2024.
The date was announced at the end of a new trailer, which premiered at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday and is viewable below.
The game will be available in early access on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Xbox’s Indiana Jones game is officially coming to PS5
Xbox and MachineGames‘ Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is officially coming to PlayStation 5, it’s been confirmed.
The game will be released first for Xbox and PC on December 9, followed by Sony‘s console in Spring 2025, it was announced at Gamescom on Tuesday.
“We want everybody to be able to enjoy this adventure,” said game director Jerk Gustafsson in a video published on social media. “That is why we are delighted to bring Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to PlayStation 5 players, next Spring 2025.”
Alongside the release date, MachineGames showed off new footage of the action-adventure title, which stars Troy Baker as the voice of Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford’s likeness is used for the game’s protagonist.
2K announces Mafia: The Old Country for release in 2025
2K has announced the next entry in its Mafia series.
Mafia: The Old Country will be released in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam.
The game, which is set during the origins of the Sicilian mafia, is in development at 2K’s Hangar 13 studio.
