Helldivers 2 sales ‘outpacing Spider-Man 2’ in the UK

The online co-op shooter was the best-selling game in March for a second month

Helldivers 2 was the UK’s best-selling game for the second consecutive month in March.

That’s according to GSD data published by GI.biz, which tracks all physical sales and digital sales from most major publishers.

According to GSD, after eight weeks, Helldivers 2 sales are now trending ahead of where Spider-Man 2 was after the same length of time (though it should be noted that the latter retails for £70 and isn’t on PC).

In total, 3.65 million PC and console games were sold across the UK during March, which is a significant rise of 26% over the same period in 2023.

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth (released in February, but part of the March data) was narrowly outsold by Dragon’s Dogma 2, though it’s worth noting that the Capcom title was only on the market for half of March.

A surprise entry into the charts are Command & Conquer titles, driven by a 17-title bundle released on Steam during March. Two of the games (Generals and Red Alert 2) made the Top Ten, with ten games in total in the Top 20.

In hardware, some 117,000 games consoles were sold in the UK during March, which is a rise of 22% over February, but down 15% over March last year.

At No. 1, PS5 sales were up 25% over February, but down 9% over March last year. Nintendo Switch sales were up 20% month-on-month, but down 20% year-on-year. Narrowly missing out on second place is Xbox Series S and X, which is up 19% over the month before, but down 18% year-on-year.
