Half of the past decade’s top 20 US games were Call of Duty
Activision and Rockstar games dominate the best-seller rankings
US market research firm the NPD Group has revealed the best-selling games of 2019 and the 2010s.
The data includes physical and digital sales where available and the rankings are based on dollar rather than unit sales.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare takes the top place on the 2019 list, while 10 of the 20 top-selling games of the last decade were from Activision’s shooter series.
Rockstar titles Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption II feature on both the 2019 and 2010s charts. GTA V, released in 2013, was the decade’s best-seller ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in November 2019 that Rockstar’s blockbuster game has shipped over 115 million units worldwide.
Mario Kart 8 and Minecraft also feature on both NPD lists, while three DICE games (Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4 and Star Wars Battlefront) make the top 20 games of the decade.

FIFA 20, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were the best-selling boxed console games of 2019 in the UK, where Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Minecraft were the best-selling games of the decade.
FIFA 20 was also the best-selling boxed game in Europe in 2019 ahead of Modern Warfare and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
