Gran Turismo dev sorry for ‘unintended issue’ blasting cars into space

Polyphony Digital has apologised to players for an “unintended” Gran Turismo 7 issue which is causing cars to blast off into the sky.

The issue, which Polyphony says is related to a “particular car setting” – shared by a player here – inadvertently arrived with the PS5 racer’s 1.49 update on July 25.

Shortly after the update went live, social media was filled with videos of players and AI vehicles inexplicably launching into the stratosphere.

“We are now aware of the following issue,” Polyphony wrote. “Unintended vehicle behaviour is produced when a particular car setting is set within Car Settings…

“This issue is currently under investigation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing.”

As shared on Reddit, the physics are also affecting the game’s cut-scenes and its VR mode.

Gran Turismo 7’s free July 2024 update added one new track and six new cars to the game. The update also includes new rims.

The new track, Eiger Norwand, returns from Gran Turismo 6. Also included in the update is compatibility for the game’s AI racer, Sophy, on the Nurburgring 24-hour race, and the Autodrome Lago Maggiore.

This is the latest in several free updates for the flagship Sony racer. The game has seen new cars and tracks consistently added to the game since its launch.
