Sony has confirmed that God of War Ragnarök will be released for PlayStation 5 in 2021.
The announcement was saved for the finale of Wednesday’s PS5 showcase.
In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is the ultimate destruction of the gods in a cataclysmic battle with evil, out of which a new order will arise.
“The time draws near,” series protagonist Kratos says in the teaser announcement. “You must prepare yourself.”

Developed by PlayStation‘s Santa Monica Studio, the action adventure game is the follow-up to 2018’s PS4 exclusive God of War.
Unlike previous entries in the long-running series, which were inspired by Greek mythology, God of War is loosely based on Norse mythology.
The series reboot was a critical and commercial success, winning multiple Game of the Year awards and selling over 10 million copies.
Sony released a two-hour documentary detailing the development of God of War in 2019.
