Ghost of Yotei is getting a new story expansion and roguelike mode in October, plus a Complete Edition

Ghost of Yotei is getting a surprise story expansion in October, Sony has announced.

The new expansion is titled Echoes of Sekigahara, and will be available alongside a new combat survival mode called Most Wanted.

Both modes will be released on October 1, and will be included together for $14.99 as DLC for players who already own Ghost of Yotei.

For those who don’t, a new Complete Edition of the game is available today for $69.99. Players who buy it can start playing the base game now, with Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted arriving as a patch on October 1.

Players who either buy the Complete Edition or pre-order the DLC by September 30 will also receive the Sakai Armor, which is described as “a throwback to Jin’s family armor from Ghost of Tsushima“. Sony say this is an “early unlock”, implying the armor can still be earned by playing through the DLC.

Sony’s description for Echoes of Sekigahara reads: “Split between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland, you’ll meet Nagato, a figure from Atsu’s past who has arrived in Ezo.

“In the present, you’ll explore a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his gang of loyal followers, the Vipers. In the past, you’ll experience Atsu’s time in the Battle of Sekigahara and a key moment in her life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance. You’ll meet new enemies and find new heavy weapons, new armor sets, new dyes, and more.”

Most Wanted, meanwhile, is a a roguelike “single-player combat survival mode”, according to Sony.

“You’ll accept bounties in order to start new runs, where taking down enemies will earn you perks, as well as unlock additional characters to play as,” it says.

“We’ll have much more to show soon, but as you can see in the trailer today, Atsu is a master with the dual katana, while Oyuki excels with the kusarigama, and Nagato shines with a yari. We love to watch the amazing combat reels that have been shared with us on social media, and can’t wait to see you all try to perfect these runs.”

VGC’s Ghost of Yotei review calls it a “touching samurai epic”, saying: “Ghost of Yotei fufills much of the promise of Ghost of Tsushima, delivering a hugely enjoyable open-world game, that almost rids itself of Tsushima’s bloat.

“Pacing issues and some underdeveloped villains aside, Yotei improves on the original game in every department, and delivers best-in-class visuals and music.”
