Ghibli-inspired life sim Starsand Island revealed
The game is planned for a late 2025 release
A new life simulation inspired by the Studio Ghibli movies has been spotted on Steam.
Starsand Island appeared on Steam on Monday, as spotted by Gematsu, and has players travelling to a seaside town to start a new life.
Clearly stating its inspiration in its Steam description, the game is referred to as “a Ghibli-esque island paradise” and is set for release in late 2025.
Little is known about its developer Creativision Studio, but based on a Twitter account that was set up for the game in 2021 – suggesting it’s been in development for a while – and sports a similar logo, it would appear to be based in South Korea.
“Starsand Island is more than just a game – it’s a journey for the soul,” the game’s description reads.
“Imagine yourself amidst warm sunshine, soft sands, lush meadows, gentle windmills, friendly townsfolk, affectionate dolphins, vibrant corals, cozy cabins, and lively squirrels.
“This is an island world inspired by the whimsical style of Ghibli where you can shed the burdens of reality and enjoy the peace and beauty of your very own slice of paradise.”
Creativision claims the full game will be inhabited by more than 40 NPCs, each with their own backstories to uncover.
“Build meaningful relationships and possibly find a life partner,” it says. “These residents will respond to your actions with daily greetings and care, granting you a true sense of belonging and the warmth of home within the island community.
“Choose the perfect location between the mountains and the sea to build your dream home. Construction goes beyond mere brick and mortar, this is your canvas for creativity.
“Whether designing murals, customizing sounds, or programming interactive props, you’re free to express yourself and create a space that’s uniquely yours.”
Some elements of the game will likely have to be changed before release – in the first trailer, the player is shown watching TV, where copyrighted shows Tom & Jerry, Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan are shown.
