GameStop reportedly cancels all in-store Resident Evil 4 collector’s edition orders

US games retailer GameStop has reportedly canceled all in-store preorders of Resident Evil 4’s collector’s edition.

First highlighted by Twitter user Wario64, GameStop employees reportedly received a memo informing them that physical stores would not be receiving the collector’s editions and that orders were to be canceled, or exchanges offered.

Online orders are reportedly unaffected by this issue. GameStop is yet to comment.

One customer who reportedly contacted their local store was told that preorders from the collector’s edition have been canceled “across the board.”

The Resident Evil 4 collector’s edition includes the game, a steel book, a statue of Leon Kennedy, an art book, a poster, and a digital soundtrack.

The Resident Evil 4 “Extra DLC pack,” is also included, which contains costumes for some of the main characters, in-game filters, exclusive weaponry, and other small bonuses.

Exclusive to GameStop in the US, the edition was sold in the UK via retailer Game, where it sold out extremely quickly.

Announced last year, the Resident Evil 4 remake will release on March 24, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PC via Steam.

According to Capcom, Resident Evil 4 remake will preserve the essence of the original game, while “introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics”.

Capcom has also recently published a new Resident Evil 4 remake gameplay video and confirmed plans for a demo and post-launch Mercenaries mode.

Debuted during the PlayStation State of Play, the new Resident Evil 4 trailer sees protagonist Leon in various situations throughout his fight for survival.

“For those of you who played the original game, you might recognize some of the scenes,” promotion producer Edvin Edsö told the PlayStation Blog. “Drama! Action! New gameplay! Let us know what secrets you found hidden within the new footage.”
