Forza Horizon 4’s latest update is breaking the game on Xbox Series X and S
Players are advised to start the game offline while Playground Games works on a fix
The latest update for Forza Horizon 4 appears to have introduced a huge bug that prevents the game running on Xbox Series X and S.
A comment on the Xbox Series X Reddit page advised players about the issue, saying “do not update Forza Horizon 4”.
“There is a new update round about 7 GB. It breaks the game,” the post says. “The game won’t start any more on Series consoles. Not just me, the whole Forza subreddit has the problem. My whole Xbox black-screened and shut off when I first tried to open it.”
Numerous replies to the post from other Series X and S owners said the issue was happening with them too, and eventually, the official Forza Support Twitter account tweeted a message confirming that there was a problem.
“We’re aware of a crash impacting Series X and Series S players in the latest Forza Horizon4 update,” it reported. “We’re working on a fix and will update when we have an ETA.”
It later advised players that there was a workaround but warned that it could delete their progress.
“The current workaround is to take your console offline, launch the game, then re-enable online via the Xbox Series X/S dashboard,” it said. “DO NOT attempt these steps if you’ve already deleted your local save. This will cause you to lose your progress and start the game from scratch.”
A few hours later, it added: “The team is currently working on a fix and hoping to have an update by tomorrow [Friday]. We thank you for your patience.”
Originally released for Xbox One and Windows PC in 2018, Forza Horizon 4 was updated for Xbox Series X/S in 2020, when it was also made available on Android devices through cloud gaming with Game Pass Ultimate.
It’s been claimed by a pair of industry insiders that the next game in the series will be set in Mexico.
