Fortnite confirms that Sonic is coming to its next season, Override
It’s been heavily suggested by leakers that the next season will focus on video game crossovers
Epic Games has officially announced that Sonic the Hedgehog will be coming to the next season of Fortnite.
Chapter 7 Season 4 of the free-to-play game will be dubbed Override, and starts on August 20.
A new nine-second teaser promoting the Override season has now been published, showing the Green Hill Zone from the first Sonic the Hedgehog game, with Sonic running over a loop.
It then shows Fortnite‘s banana character Peely running in the same way Sonic does in Sonic Adventure, followed by the tagline “break the rules, change the game”.
The trailer lends more credibility to claims from Fortnite leakers over the past few weeks that the next season of Fortnite will be focused on guest characters from other video games.
Sonic was previously leaked as a character set to come in Chapter 7 Season 4, along with guest characters from Kingdom Hearts and Vampire Survivors.
Since then, leakers such as HypeX have suggested that other crossovers planned for Season 4 could include Tetris, Persona and Minecraft.
Users have pointed out that the Sonic teaser trailer briefly shows a cloud shaped like a Z-shaped piece in Tetris, seemingly confirming that crossover too.
Numerous video game characters have appeared as skins in Fortnite in previous seasons, mostly as additions to the game’s store rather than part of the main story.
Indeed, the game has its own specific rarity called Gaming Legends Series, which is dedicated to skins and other cosmetics from other video games.
Nearly 70 video game characters from other IPs have already appeared as skins in Fortnite, including characters from Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Metal Gear Solid, Halo, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, God of War, Assassin’s Creed, Doom and Cyberpunk 2077.
